about
I remembering being made aware of cynicism by my meditation teacher of many years: Roshi John Garrie.
"Cynicism is the knife in the heart of love" he said.
From then on I looked at it in a different way ... and the harm it can do ... How we use it to protect ourselves and to cover up our own feelings and vulnerabilities. It backfires on us big time. It drains the magic out of life.
("Cynicism" not "Skepticism".)
Thus, I wrote this song.
lyrics
Cynical View of the World.
I walk the streets and act tough
I sneer and smirk and play rough
I'm so busy, trying to be,
I don't hear or see enough
I miss birdsong, blue skies
I've got a cynical view of the world,
a cynical view of the world
cynical view, cynical view
a cynical view of the world
_____________________
I build a wall around me,
so other people can't see
but it cuts out and makes me doubt,
is there a reality
I miss true smiles, kind eyes
I've got a cynical view of the world,
a cynical view of the world
cynical view, cynical view,
a cynical view of the world
_____________________
but how can I ever change?
when everyone is the same
we all destroy, just like the toys
as kids we used in our games
and how can I let you in? when every time I begin
my Dad shouts at me, my Mum ignores me
and all my brothers just grin
I've got a cynical view of the world
a cynical view of the world ...
judge and condemn my fellow men ...
cynical view of the ...
point to the sky, say its a lie ...
cynical view of the ...
mock and deride, its just to hide ...
cynical view of the ...
behind my wall I'm not sure at all ...
cynical view of the world
